Specialist Plant and Transport

Significant investment in Celtic Recycling’s transport fleet and site-specific plant includes a number of specialist and bespoke designs to provide a flexible and responsive solution to site requirements.

Our specialised transport fleet includes a purpose built, 32 tonne capacity rollonoff vehicle, equipped with a 36 tonne/metre lorry-mounted crane, which in turn is fitted with a Kinshofer clam-shell bucket (ideal for civil works with sand and aggregate), or polyp-tined hydraulic grab attachments (ideal for solid materials handling such as reinforced concrete sections or scrap steel), as circumstance dictates.

The company also deploys a 40′ rigid vehicle equipped with a 53 tonne/metre crane. This vehicle has dual application dependent on needs; for example assisting in dismantling larger transformers or switchgear items on site, or for collection and transportation of smaller cumulative consignments of equipment.

For the movement of bulkier items of hazardous waste, the company has invested in purpose-built, double-wall rollonoff containment units capable of being used in conjunction with the 36 tonne/metre lorry mounted crane. Adding to the lighter end of its vehicle fleet, the company as acquired a new 7.5 tonne capacity unit. This bespoke vehicle is designed to augment the recovery and collection of smaller quantities of hazardous wastes and is equipped with a 4 tonne/metre capacity lorry-mounted crane and a 500Kg tail-lift, thereby providing the company with lorry-mounted crane capacity ranging from 4 to 53 tonne/metres.

Other recent vehicle additions of note include a heavy transport tractor and custom-built heavy trailer, which, with its ultra-short wheelbase and all-wheel rear-steer capability, allows the vehicle to safely negotiate even the most restrictive site access routes. The vehicle is capable of transporting loads up to 55 tonnes.

All company vehicles carry onboard as standard a first aid box, fire extinguishers and emergency containment kits.

To assist in site recovery work, Celtic Recycling has purchased a 40 tonne capacity telescopic crawler crane for sites where access or ground conditions restrict the use of conventional craneage. This state-of-the-art machine is able to traverse the most difficult site conditions, and when on station can be configured to work in a designated ‘safety envelope’. This is accomplished by controlling the maximum height at which the machine can operate, and imposing limits on the maximum boom extension and slewing arc. These computer-controlled restrictions ensure the operator cannot inadvertently encroach into non-working areas.

Celtic Recycling continues to invest in specialist plant, in order to provide a range of vehicles suitable for any situation and any material.
